My mom posted a quote she liked the other day and I knew I had to make her a canvas painting with the quote on it for her birthday, needless to say, she love it! I tried to create an ombre background then I painted the saying on top once the paint dried.
Supplies:
• 16 x 20 Canvas
• Blue Paint
• White Paint
• Sponge Brush
• Black Paint Pen
• Blue Paint
• White Paint
• Sponge Brush
• Black Paint Pen
How To:
1. Pour some blue paint onto a plate and Paint a strip of blue paint about 3" wide across your canvas.
2. Add a little white paint to the blue paint on the plate until it is a shade lighter. Paint another strip of blue about 3" wide across your canvas below the first strip.
3. Repeat step 2 until your canvas is covered. Let Dry.
I had six shades of blue painted on my canvas when I was finished. I wanted a light ombre effect so I didn't add a bunch of white paint each time but if you want your painting to look more ombre then mine you will have to add more white paint each time to have a more drastic shade of blue.
4. Once your canvas is dry you can leave it like it is or paint a design or quote on it. I used Black Paint Pen from Micheals and wrote the quote on my canvas. Let Dry.
I recommend writing your quote out on paper first so you know exactly what font you want to use because if you mess up it will be hard to fix. I also recommend determining exactly where you want the words placed. In this case I had seven lines I need to fit on my canvas so I marked every 2.75" on the newspaper next to the canvas so I knew exactly how much room I had and how big I could write the words.
You can paint your ombre canvas any color you want and decorate it however you choose to, the picture doesn't do it justice, it looks a lot better in person and the ombre is more noticeable in person. Since this was a gift for my mother I choose a quote that she liked so pick a quote and color that you like or the person you are making the canvas for will like. This Ombre Canvas surprising didn't take as much time as I thought it would. The paint and paint pen dried pretty fast. I hope this tutorial helps, feel free to share what your ombre canvas turned out like in the comments below!
